Mapungubwe Day Trip

Mapungubwe, at the very tip of the northern most part of south africa. what a beatiful place.

I took the trip with 3 of my friends. We drove in from thohoyandou via makhado. Along which is an awesome road - The N1. Along the road there is a tunnel and a stop site for great photos.

The road heading to musina via the N1 is breate taking, the landscape, the mountains. Its all increadible

Finally, after a long 4 hour drive we made it to the site

Mapungubwe is a national park, as such we had to pay a conservation fee of about R60 pp. Which wasn't bad. We also paid an extra R190 pp for the Heritage tour. Which you definately must do!

The wild life obviously does not match up to the kruger national park (Nothing does) - But it was spectecular none the less.

The Tree top walk was included in the cover charge. it was great. At the very end was the all mighty limpopo river. Stunning!

The Musiem and resturant where all up to standard. Though you pay a bit extra for the musiem entrance. I have no pictures for the inside as no cameras are allowed!

The Confluence is without doubt the bueatifullest thing one could see. You stand at the very border of south africa, up top a mountain. And when you look to your left you see zimbabwe, to your right is botswana. And the limpopo river follows right at the border that devides them. The view was amazing

The last bit was the heritage tour. A short drive to the mountain top where the famous gold rhino was found was rather great. The guide was well informed and he took us down a dig site with layers of sand and rock. It was great. The king at that time lived right up top the mountain, and he showed us how the worker labour to take soil and bricks to build houses and all. The histrory behind the place was amazing.

Whe we left the 4x4, the guide whipped out a shot gun and says "we carring on by foot, if you see a lion - Don't Run"....Don't run! dude, what!
That was crazy, but the exprience was worth the trip!
